| My fiancée and I had been dating for about 9 years and the time was just right for us to get engaged. I wanted to ask her in the most special way I could think of. I came up with a plan and ran it by her friends and they OK’d it. I was running for political office in our hometown back in June and I had to attend about 3 or 4 meetings a week to try and get the nomination from my party. I told her that I had 2 meetings to go to on June 17 which happened to be our anniversary from when we started dating 9 years earlier in high school. We had both taken the day off from work so we could be together all day and went to the beach. We came home so I could go to my campaign events. I really had one meeting so I went to that one and gave my speech. I made up a lie about the second and said that I wanted her to come and see me speak because she hadn't had the chance too. I told her that the meeting was at our old high school and that she could meet me after my first meeting. I called her to let her know that I was on my way and that she could meet me. At first she didn't want to go because she wanted to finish watching her soap opera. Typical. I yelled at her and said she had to come. I got there before her and put a sign on the door of the room that the meeting had been cancelled due to an illness. She was happy of course and suggested that we go to dinner. I said that why don't we go up to the spot where I originally asked her out and kind of renew our relationship. She was hesitant because it was after school hours and she thought we weren't supposed to be in the building. Weeks earlier I had made arrangements with principal to have a custodian stay late and keep the building open for me so I could do this. I said that we would be fine. We went up to our spot, outside room 218 in the Spanish wing, and stood exactly like we did 9 years earlier. I suggested that we break up so we could start our relationship all over again. I asked her if she thought she could love me forever and she said yes and I got down on one knee and proposed. She had no idea. It was the best feeling in the world.
