| Dominic and I had been dating for 10 years. Whenever marriage was brought up, I always would say that I would never pick out my own ring. Dominic would say that HE would never pick out my ring. Since neither one of us compromised this situation, I thought he would never ask. On July 24, 2004, Dominic and I planned on a dinner date, a usual weekend thing. Typically, Dominic parks his car next door (out of vision) so my Dog doesn't see him and bark with excitement. Dominic met me at the door with a dozen of beautiful red roses. I still never thought that this was THE day, since he surprises me with flowers "For no particular occasion". As I proceeded to walk next door to get to the car, a limo slowly moves forward and stops right at my feet. As the limo driver gets out and opens the door, I hear my favorite song by Barry White playing. "You are my Everything". I turned to look at Dominic and he had a smile and a gleam in his eyes. I love him. As I question his motives, he just says we are going to dinner in style. As we pull up to Ruth Chris Steakhouse, we hear the Red Sox beat the Yankees. I am a Yankee fan and he is a Red Sox fan. I said, this is not going to be a good night (how wrong was I going to be). As we were seated in a private corner of the finest restaurant, he gave me a gift. It was wrapped in paper that gift shops usually provide. I knew this had to be a Cherished Teddy, something I collect for all occasions. Again, I didn't think anything was about to happen due to our standstill about the ring. As I unwrapped the gift and pulled out the Cherished Teddy, I realized that something was taped to it. It was a diamond ring attached to a groom bear. As I looked up, Dominic was kneeled beside me, again with that gleam in his eyes. He asked me to marry him. All I kept saying was, is this for real? I couldn't believe he did it. I honestly was expecting a train ticket to NYC in which we would pick out a ring together. When I said yes, the other patrons next to us began to clap. I was in tears! Happy tears! The waitress did not know what was going on and asked with concern if everything was okay. We told her the great news by saying these were happy tears and I was engaged now. After we made the necessary and important phone calls, he revealed to me that the ring on my finger was only a temporary ring. My real ring was waiting for me to pick out in NYC. I giggled and could be nothing more than the happiest engaged bride-to-be in the world. I loved him for devising this plan, I loved him for 10 years and will be loving him forever (even after the Red Sox won the 2004 world series in 86 yrs). I knew something was weird about this year. Weird - No; Special - Yes.
